Livestock Exchange, c1906

Historic Pictoric | Item# KAN100269

The construction of stockyards in Kansas City enabled livestock owners to get better prices for their animals. Once established in 1871, the sale of animals went to the highest bidder, instead of the flat price previously offered by the railroad company. By the turn of the 20th century, the Kansas City stockyards hosted one of the largest horse and mule markets in the country.
