The Jersey Shore, Second Avenue, Asbury Park, c1911

The beach town of Asbury Park grew almost instantly from the time it was purchased in 1871 through the early 20th century. Large Victorian homes were built on tree-lined streets, the first hotel was opened, a business district was established and the area's pristine beaches filled with visitors. A trolley system was put into place from 1885 to 1923, just to accommodate summertime crowds.
