Boston, Massachusetts, The Elevated Railway at Dudley Street Station, c1904

When the city of Roxbury was incorporated into Boston in 1868, it was a thriving commercial municipality, home to a recent influx of Irish immigrants. The popular stores around Dudley Square regularly drew shoppers from downtown, so the area was identified as a destination for the early expansion of Bostons elevated train system. Dudley Station opened in 1901.
