Boston, Massachusetts, View from East Boston, c1906

Colloquially known as Eastie, the neighborhood of East Boston was built by connecting several small islands with landfill. Shortly after it became part of the city of Boston in 1836, the population was around a thousand people; by 1925 it counted over 64,000 residents. Located across from Bostons port, the neighborhood has long been a foothold for Americans newest immigrants.
