Charleston, South Carolina, Residence on Rutledge Avenue, c1890

The Isaiah Jenkins Mikell House was built in 1851, blending Greek revival style with Italianate embellishments. John Ficken, who served as mayor from 1891 to 1895, lived in the house until his death in 1925. By then, the Charleston Free Library had outgrown its building and purchased the house, where the library resided until 1960.
