Cincinnati, Ohio, The Cincinnati Wharf, c1890

By 1850, Cincinnati was not only teeming with steamboats but also building them. Then the sixth largest city in America, it continued to grow due to its river-borne commerce. Originally built in 1871 and rebuilt in 1890, the Hercules Carrel was a towboat that served the Cincinnati wharf for almost 50 years.
