Cleveland, Ohio, Brookside Park, c1905

A sweeping 81-acre expanse of land in southwestern Cleveland became one of the citys first municipal parks in 1894. Originally named Brooklyn Park, the grounds provided a perfect natural setting for a variety of recreational activities. Within a few years the parks territory had nearly doubled and was renamed Brookside; there was ample room for tennis, baseball, and picnicking on the scenic bluff. It became part of Cleveland Metroparks in 1994, renamed as Brookside Reservation.
