Cleveland, Ohio, Downtown Euclid Avenue, c1905

Once dubbed the Showplace of America, Euclid Avenue was world-renowned for its opulent mansions and their extremely wealthy owners. One of its residents, however, saw the potential in a developing commercial corridor close to downtown. Charles Lathrop Pack began buying up property along Euclid shortly after taking up residence there in 1888 and, by the 1920s, office towers and apartment buildings had replaced many of the areas original mansions.
