Connecticut, Scenic Litchfield, c1901

Tucked away in the northwestern corner of the state, the town of Litchfield thrived in the years following the American Revolution. Considered safer than Connecticuts other coastal cities, it was used as a military depot by the Continental forces, and, after the war, blossomed into one of the states largest settlements. Though its growth thereafter began to stall, it re-emerged by the 20th century as an isolated and scenic resort town.
