Denver, Colorado, The Denver Republican Building, c1915

In the late 1800s, Denver had two Democratic newspapers: the formidably strong Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Daily Democrat. The death of the Democrats owner and the saturation of the newspaper market prompted his heirs to sell the paper to Republican owners, who established a permanent home for the Denver Republican at 1118 16th Street.
