New Orleans, Louisiana, Jackson Square, c1903

French and Spanish colonial governors, U.S. Presidents, and the Pope have all worshipped at St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square, the oldest cathedral in America. The church was originally constructed in 1727 but was rebuilt in its current style after a devastating fire in 1794. It was given the title of Basilica after a papal visit in 1988.
