The grand theater had opened in 1928 as a movie palace designed by noted theater architect Thomas W. Lamb. The Spanish Baroque-style theater featured its own orchestra and organ that played while silent films ran. At death's door those 41 years later, a nonprofit group called CAPA, the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, successfully raised money to save and eventually run and renovate the historic theatre, which became the home of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and a venue for other live performances. It is now designated as the Official Theatre of the State of Ohio. | Credit line: Photographs in the Carol M.
