After Jonathan Pitney successfully lobbied for the creation of the Camden and Atlantic Railroad, passenger cars began delivering tourists to Atlantic City in droves. With the demand for overnight accommodations skyrocketing, financiers began construction on a number of ambitious hotel projects. One such undertaking was the waterfront Marlborough-Blenheim Hotel, which, upon its completion in 1906, was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world.
