This is a scarce c. 1808 map of Khwarezm or Chorasima on the Amu Darya river delta in Uzbekistan. It covers this large oasis region in western central Asia from the Aral Sea (formerly a large lake that has now shrunk to 10% of its capacity) in the north south to Khiwa (Chiwa) and the borders of modern day Turkmenistan. The map renders the entire region in extraordinary detail, noting major towns, rivers, roads, ruins, deserts, mountains, lakes and other topography. Includes the route to Tashkent and Orenburg. The map also notes the ancient bed of the Oin xus (Amu Darya). This map was taken from the Tiree du nouvel Atlas de Russie.
